A collaboration between The Idaho Horse Council and Boise State University
The Idaho Horse Census is conducted every four years, with the next report scheduled for release in late 2025.
Overview
In 1988, the Idaho Horse Council commissioned the University of Idaho to conduct and publish a horse census and economic impact statement. Survey findings were published in the 1991 Idaho Agricultural Statistics magazine. A 2010 census study was done to determine the size of the Equine Industry in Idaho and was conducted by the Social Science Research Unit at University of Idaho. Another Horse census study was done in collaboration with the University of Idaho in 2015 to document the financial impact that horse ownership has on the Idaho economy.
