The IHC acts to protect and promote the entire horse industry in Idaho. Equine clubs, chapters, individuals, and business organizations come together to further the common interest of the horse industry. The IHC serves as the official equine voice to governmental and regulating bodies. Our committee members are truly dedicated to Promote, Protect, and Preserve the Equine Industry in Idaho.
We work with horsemen, veterinarians, and the Department of Agriculture to develop rules for potentially devastating diseases. We participate at meetings all over the state, and actively engage with agencies and legislative bodies to protect all equine related activities in our great state.
We maintain a year round permanent office with a part time staff to answer questions and be an information resource for horsemen, business organizations, and governmental agencies. We successfully produce the IHC Horse Expo each year, largely through volunteer efforts. Our Expo introduces horsemen and non-horsemen to the latest equine clinicians, events, activities and products, etc. All proceeds go right back into the horse industry for promotion and protection.
We effect legislation on a state and national level as it relates to equine health, promotion, creation of the Idaho Horse Board, protection of trails, racing, brand inspections, and a multitude of other horse related issues. The IHC was instrumental in getting the Equine Activities Immunity Act in Idaho code, which protects individuals who allow others to ride on their property. Signs are available at the IHC office for a nominal fee.
We create a horse census in collaboration with other organizations which documents many things to include the actual financial impact horse ownership and related horse activities have in Idaho. We get the attention of legislative bodies and agencies when they see equine related $$$ spent.
We support Idaho’s youth. Each year Idaho Horse Council awards three $1,500.00 scholarships for a total of $4,500 to Idaho students who have been active within some area of the equine industry.
We advocate for your "right to ride" in our great state. There is a decline of open spaces in which to keep and enjoy our horses in light of rapid urbanization. We, and all of our members, focus on the protection of our historical heritage and traditions. Horses enhance the quality of life in our communities. We believe horses contribute to our state's scenic beauty as well as its economy. We believe all horse organizations should "come aboard" and contribute with our collective voices in order to preserve what is so near and dear to our hearts.
