In 1988, the Idaho Horse Council commissioned the University of Idaho to conduct and publish a horse census and economic impact statement. Survey findings were published in the 1991 Idaho Agricultural Statistics magazine. A 2010 census study was done to determine the size of the Equine Industry in Idaho and was conducted by the Social Science Research Unit at University of Idaho. Another Horse census study was done in collaboration with the University of Idaho in 2015 to document the financial impact that horse ownership has on the Idaho economy. Currently the IHC is collaborating with Boise State University to complete a 2020 Horse Census study.
Our purpose is to promote all facets of idaho’s equine industry, to serve as its voice, monitor legislation affecting equine activities, and be the source of information and resources for idaho’s horsemen and horsewomen.
